Love Potion

Yesterday I turned 40 something. Amazingly enough I don’t feel all that old. I can even pluck the few white hairs – they are very manageable. It has to be that I have young kiddos and it makes me feel younger.

My sweet baby boy greeted me first thing in morning with the most amazing hug and stinky-breath kiss! He sang his version of Happy Birthday and added a “cha cha cha” between verses. It was one of those serene moments you just want to make last forever. We hugged and hugged and I could barely make my big baby fit in my arms.

My baby girl woke up a little grump, which is never unusual. But she livened up later in the morning when her grandparents showed up. They surprised mama with a homemade millionaire pie with a “pink” candle on top. It was the dessert and pink candle that made her smile and she suddenly became eager to sing to mama, just waiting to yank that candle out, lick it and stick her little fingers smack into the pie! That’ll get your little girls to sing to her mama anytime!

After a special lunch with my grandma, my parents, my sister, and my daughter at a local, sweet restaurant, my little girl and I went shopping for a few last minute birthday items a 3-yr. old felt we really should have. And they were: pink balloons, pink streamers, and pink cookies! We ended our afternoon alone watching Enchanted and danced and danced; both dressed in our Cinderella dresses! Believe it or not, I was able to get into my Jr. prom dress…now it didn’t zip, but I DID get it on and was able to tie the sash in the back!

By the time dad got home we had the streamers and balloons up and ready for our party! We had lotaburgers, fries and corn dogs – the perfect picnic in the den. After dad and the kids cleaned up, they brought each of us a plate of dessert and a candle on each of our serving. I was showered with a special chorus of singing, a new nightgown, and Dove DARK chocolates…mama was in heaven.

My birthday celebrations actually began during the weekend. Daddy took me for a wonderful steak dinner on Saturday followed by an intense Lobo/UNLV basketball game. On Sunday he took me to Pei Wei’s and following that we had a relaxing visit in a coffee shop, followed by an evening spent seeing Jim Caviezel “live” talking about his experience playing “Jesus” in The Passion.

On Tuesday, Auntie prepared an exquisite dinner for me. My mouth watered with the homemade spinach salad topped with walnuts and feta cheese. She whipped up this amazing rice mixture that was stuffed into 4 different colored bell peppers. Fresh, whipped mashed potatoes were served as a side, along with a freshly baked loaf of warm whole wheat bread. Her infamous pistachio-layered dessert followed dinner. She bought me my own quart of Baskin Robbin’s seasonal Love Potion #31 ice cream.

40 something, a great husband, and 2 wonderful children, dove dark chocolates, family, friends and a quart of Love Potion - I couldn’t ask for more! As a kid I never wanted my birthday to end. As evening would approach I would literally become sad because I loved my day. I loved every detail of it - not much as changed. I still love every detail of my birthday as you can tell. I didn’t want my day to end, but I have plenty of doves, a quart of Love Potion waiting in my freezer and my very own eternity of Love Potion (my family)...all waiting for mama…

Agape.
