Missing Corn...Fall is Almost Here!

One of our favorite things about living where do is the corn field directly across our property. For over 5 years, it's been farmed and corn feed for livestock is grown on the 5+ acres. We love the seasons of the corn field...come spring, fertilizer is brought in by the truck load, seeding begins, irrigation starts and before we know it...we witness budding of corn plants...summer takes over and before we know it, we are blessed with an amazing view of row after row of corn. It's not eatable, but beautiful.

Every year, about this time, we dread seeing the big trucks that have enormous spouts protruding from the tractor...that means mulching of the corn begins. I thought it use to take days, but not any more...they caravan in and within 5 hours, we are left with a bare view.

But, not for long...you would be amazed at all the birds that have been visiting us...it's a pure feast for them...and here's the most amazing part...come Thanksgiving time as the cranes begin to migrate South, they make a pit stop for the field directly across from us...oh, the sound of whoopin' cranes...music to the ear!

Before we know it, Nov. will be among us and we'll see our friends and shortly thereafter, the field will begin the process all over again and we'll be welcoming Spring!

Farewell corn...for now, anyway!
