We found out this past weekend that a local apple orchard (Costanza's) was seeking volunteers to pick apples for a local food pantry. Here was the deal: You pick a box for charity and you get, in return, a box for yourself that you also get to pick!
The owner is explaining to the kids
how to pick, so not to damage
branches for next year's crop!
We are off with our wagon and
THREE EMPTY BOES (yep,
that's gonna be 120 lbs of apples)!
So, we start picking by hand and also
got to use a handy dandy little contraption
they made from a Folger's coffee can....
One box filled, TWO to GO!
It was fun to have our neighbors K&L join us!
At the very end we found a really yummy yellow apple tree
that the 5 of us sampled and enjoyed as we ended our picking!
In this picture, we're almost at 3 filled boxes...we
eventually filled all three and it sure felt like
more than 120 lbs as I pulled and kids pushed
the wagon to the main barn!
What a great way to spend an awesome Fall Sunday afternoon. My kids not only enjoyed themselves, they gave back, and that's important! They understood that the purpose of the work was to give to those less fortunate. The owners were incredible and making sure the kids new they did an outstanding job! We ended up donating 2 boxes vs 1!
