Story Telling Report Today at School

"Good morning boys and girls. My name is Walter Disney, but most people call me Walt. I was born in Chicago Dec. 5, 1901 and died Dec. 15, 1966 at the age of 65. I had lung disease.

When I was 4 years old my family and I moved to Marceline, Missouri and lived there only 4 years. We lived on a farm with many animals. In fact, I even rod hogs and the neighbors laughed at me.

My brother Roy was a nice brother and he helped me on the farm. My sister Ruth was funny. I would borrow her hats and dress up the hogs! My mom home schooled me for a few years and my dad was ill. My Aunt Maggie got me my first sketchpad and pencil (as he holds up the 2 props).

Boys and girls, I am an artist and it all began one day in Marceline as my dad brought out a can of tar to fix the roof. I thought it was paint and drew a pig on the wall. I liked it, but one person didn't and that was my father (a entire dramatization follows as this story is reenacted.)

Let me tell you about a problem I had. My best friend Ub and I had a business called "Laugh-O-Gram," and it went broke. I had no money, no bed and only 1 pr. of shoes. My only friend was a mouse that watched me sketch in my studio. Can you guess what I named him? (he asks audience for guess)...I named him Mortimer!

My problem was solved when I borrowed a motion picture camera and began to take pictures of babies. I made enough money to buy the camera, sell it and make a profit. Enough money to buy a railway ticket to Hollywood where my brother Roy lived.

I created many famous characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White, etc. I even built Disneyland in 1955! My favorite thing in Disneyland is the Lincoln display.

Boys and girls, I worked many jobs. I worked hard. I believe in imagination!"

Today, after a full week of rehearsing and listening to the above "story-telling" report, my boy will be presenting this to his entire class. He dressed as a farm boy with suspenders and carried his sketch pad and pencil his Aunt Maggie gave him! I wanted to go, but he kindly told me he might get really nervous and asked that I not go, so I respected his little wish and I know he's gonna do an AMAZING job this morning!

I think you already did a great job my sweet boy! This morning as you gave your final practice story to me and your sister mama was BLOWN away! Way to go...never stop believing in yourself and let your imagination go crazy like Walt! I love you forever, Mama

That is so awesome! I love that story! I'm sure A did great reading it, I just wonder if the other kids guessed who he was! Not what you would think!

My youngest son is doing something very similar in his Spanish class at school. He choose to be Colonel Sanders of KFC. It was fun making his red apron with white stripes, spray painting a mustache white and finding him a chicken to carry! He has to tell who he is all in Spanish! :)

I got feedback the next day from parents who did get to attend (their kids let them...boo hoo) and his teacher. All were in awe at his presentation. His teacher did not allow any notecards - she wanted a story told. Apparently, you could tell from his eyes that he was concentrating, but it was a hit when he engaged the audience into guessing portions of his story (ie what he drew on the wall with tar and the name of the wastebasket mouse) - guess he was the only one who did that! Yeah my boy! You did good! hip hip horray
